The Consulate was built in the year 1810 in Scottish town house fashion. Some fifteen years later, documentation proves it to have contained the Bank of British North America. During the second half of the century, the building housed the American Consulate.

For approximately fifty years of the twentieth century, Judge Welsford MacDonald, one of Pictou's distinguished war veterans, located his residence in the building.

Having undergone extensive renovations in the past years, the Consulate Inn offers spacious guest rooms and luxury suites tastefully decorated in period furniture.

Located in the historic town of Pictou, the Consulate Inn is two minutes walk from the famous Hector Heritage Quay reconstruction site of the ship Hector, and world famous Grohmann Knife factory.

Pictou is centrally located, approximately two hours from Halifax and Baddeck, Cape Breton, and just five minutes drive from the P.E.I. ferry terminal.
